What another rare find!
This stove was hiding in a basement in the Jura Mountains
in Eastern France, and we purchased directly from the
granddaughter of the 1st owner..... it just waiting for us
to come along and rescue it. It was made by the foundry of
Audemar & Guyon, (formerly Guyon Frères) situated at
Dole in the Jura department of France, probably in the
very first part of the 20th century. It is extremely well
cast, having a typical Arts & Crafts style theme to
the casting. It also has a right hand side loading door as
well as a top hatch which is quite unusual.
The enamel is a beautiful bottle green colour which has a
nice gloss to it ~ it is rich n colour throughout the
stove being enamelled on all 4 sides. The enamel work has
a couple of minor chips which are to be expected on a
stove this old. The firebox is made up of removable plates
of cast iron and is in excellent condition. The chrome
work is also in excellent condition. The stove has a
beaded motif in the casting along the four pillars of the
stove body and this is continuous around the base of the
stove body, as well as being shown on the claw and ball
feet. It has a wonderful "fleur de lys" casting on the top
cover which can be lifted revealing a hotplate which could
serve to keep the coffee hot! . The makers plate on the
front says: "Audemar Guyon a Dole Jura "
The bonus with this stove is that it is in original
condition (which is very rare these days). It is
immaculate and ready to use. The firebox and ash box are
all in excellent working order, and the mica in the door
has been renewed.
This stove would add grandeur to any period home and would
compliment an elegant conservatory.
This is a rare opportunity to own a working, living
individual piece of French 20th C history. Stoves like
this one do not come on the market often so we advise you
to offer early to avoid disappointment.
